The older Winchester loading Guides list 571 used in 40SW and 45ACP. Too slow for trap or skeet loads but works for heavy 12ga 1 3/8-1 1/2 oz magnum type loads and is a great 20 ga 1oz powder.
I have read that Hodgdon HS6 is the same as 540 and HS7 is the same as 571 but don't know for sure, just what I've read.

Apologies for horning in on this thread, but I would appreciate any load data for using WIN473AA in any handgun caliber if someone has access to old Winchester data. .380, 9mm, 10mm, .38, .357, .44, .45 and .30 Carbine, if anyone has such data, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Thanks.

Use caution using this old data for 571 powder. This should give you some idea of safe starting loads and do work up especially switching component brands.
You have enough 571 for a lot of pistol rounds OR you could trade it to a shotgun reloader.

I like it....

I've also been told that W-571 is the same as HS-7. Both powders are discontinued..... I bought some 571 at the gun show and it does look identical to my HS-7...... I haven't tried it yet but I've run quite a bit of HS-7 through my .45 Colt, [Ruger Vaquero], and it's one of my favorites with 255 grain cast bullets at around 1000-1150 fps. In my experience it's best for elevated performance loads without going into full-magnum perfomance territory. In other words; it's one of the best!

rg1, many thanks for this old Win 473AA data!
Best I can tell is that Olin discontinued the 473AA about the same time they introduced WSF and WST, about 1990, I think.

Just one quick bit about 10mm, however-- birthed in like 1983. Not mainstream until '87 or '88, I can see why it wasn't in an '87 Speer manual, but it did exist at the time. (barely!)

Thanks!

RG1 thanks

appreciate your info, I'm still trying to find my old reloading books. but that sounds real good. 8lbs of powder gives me a lot of working up time. I did read that HS-7 was the same and have found some info on that, so thanks a lot and happy loading.

571 powder

I have used a lot of 571 for loading 20 ga. & 12 ga. shotgun. If you decide you want to sell or trade it, I might be interested.

DON"T USE that 571! Send it to me and I'll send you a 7# can of WW296! I can use the 571 for slug loads and the 296 is just sitting here! CB.
