Wait, what?

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=331657

A staff member post an inflammatory rant (supposedly about snubbies) directed towards Ruger by a "nationally known trainer". Won't name this "nationally known trainer" and then locks the thread because people won't buy the anti-Ruger rant.

Curious.

Once again:

I locked it because despite the harsh rhetoric of the piece, it made some valid points. It was not written for general consumption originally but I had permission to post it. It was for a private group that talks its mind frankly. So there is no insult aimed at you. Do we get that?

When the responses were just starting to be about the style of the OP and trying to make more witty comments, I felt we weren't going anywhere.

Feel free to start a new thread about:

1. The utility of this particular gun
2. The general utility of snubbies for the carrying public
3. Training issues for their usage.

I never claimed that I was, or felt, insulted.

Permission to post, yet not to name the author? Seems to me that if the author felt this strongly about the issue, he would want his name out there. Unless, of course, he felt there may be repercussions from his statements.

Personally, I don't care what some unnamed "nationally known trainer" thinks about anything. Especially hearing his views secondhand over the 'net. I do fear his statements could turn less informed potential gun owners off to a particular gun.

Not possible at this time. These won't be available to the public until March (according to the Ruger site). I imagine not more than 5 non-Ruger employees had touched one of these prior to yesterday.

While there has been a lot of bashing based on looks, I refuse to judge any gun based solely on that factor.

I do intend to purchase a LCR in the future, after any potential bugs have been worked out. Until then, I will withhold judgement.

A few gunwriters have seen them.

That "Firearms & Bullets" mag has already reviewed it. Be out in a month or two.

I think it would have been better to just delete the original post, because it had criticizms about Ruger by someone who may or may not, and probably not, be qualified to make them anyway. It can cause people who are seeking knowledge and information here to develop unreasonable bias against an excellent manufacturer.

So many of these "gun celebrities" do not have enough, or any, practical experience in fire fights to be preaching to us anyway. If they cannot make their statements publicly and stand up to disagreement, then they should not be posted. I have encountered virtually no one in the national scene whose opinion I would care about anyway.

Geez guys - do you read? It was my decision to post it in the form that it was done. It wasn't written for this forum. I thought it might be useful.

I'm the one who said the person was a nationally known trainer.

So blame me or get that point. I take full responsibility for the post.

Glenn

I get that the piece wasn't written for TFL consumption, I also get that this super trainer shows his (or her) bias to the point that the opinion is basically worthless. Any day of any week there are people that can do amazing things with these low capacity, heavy triggered, worthless pieces of (paraphrased)junk. I'll bet there are any number of these folks that could teach your friend a thing or two if they could get past the obvious ego problem.

OK, enough.

Glenn can reopen this if he wants, but he's explained why he posted the piece that he did, and why he closed it.

Don't like it? Take it up with him in a private message.

Have a strong opinion of your own on the utility of small handguns? Great, welcome to the club.
