Speer 40gr .223 Spire SP load suggestions
I have no data for this particular bullet. I have data for 40gr V-Max which would probably work fine but I will not have the correct OAL using the V-Max data.
Could someone please post the following: 1)Starting load using Varget or IMR 4064 (I have these two powders on hand) 2)OAL Thanks... |

Perhaps if you consulted a Speer Manual? And, is that bullet probably intended for slower moving round like 22 Hornet rather then a 223 velocities may well tear the bullet up? So powder like Varget and such will not be a good match....

CGA,
From Speer #14: 22 Spire SP as listed under 223 Remington. Varget: Start Charge of 26.0 gr (3148fps), Max Charge 28.0 compressed (3461fps), COL 2.060". Data is based on an IMI cartridge case, CCI 400 primer, test firearm Ruger M77 MkII rifle, 22" barrel. Per the manual, the load does not exceed the 223 Remington's maximum average pressure of 52,000 CUP. |

Thanks a million Jim! That data coincides with the data for the V-Max which was a starting grains of 25.6 Varget. OAL for V-Max was 2.215"
rn22723, I did not have a Speer manual...hence the reason for asking on here. The bullet is exactly the same as the V-Max but the OAL would be different. |

rn22723, Let it go rn22723, Jim gave me the data I did not have. I didn't have the Speer manual. The only data I had was for a V-Max in 40gr which had the almost exactly the same starting grains...that's all I was saying...I didn't say the bullet was the same.
Had I used the data for the V-Max I would have been ok since the weights were the same. |
