Firestorm 1911, any good?

I've been wanting a 1911 for a while now, mainly just as a range toy, but might carry it at times too.

Anyway, I found a Firestorm at a local shop for about $400, but I've never heard of this brand before.

Does anyone here own one?

How reliable is it?

Is $400 a good price?

News to me, I did not know Firestorm made a 1911.....45ACP yes, but not 1911. But maybe they do now?

Just checked. I stand corrected, they do now. I can't comment on how good/bad they are.

I shot one and it functioned excellent. It was cheaply made and the 230 gr. FMJ keyholed horribly, but it ran fine.

For 400.00, I would get a RIA 1911.

I had one for a short period of time...skip it and save up for a "true" 1911

A friend of mine on m1911.org is wrapping up a review of the new Firestorm "1911" for the ezine. He has yet to publish the review but from he told me it did run fine but the trigger was heavy.

For $70 more you could get a Rock River Arms 1911, which IMO is a far better 1911.

A Rock River Arms 1911 for $470 ? Perhaps you meant a Rock Island Armory 1911.

If $400 is pretty close to your budget limits, I understand.
Since Kahr took over Thompson/Auto Ordnance, something happened to their 1911's (they're parts seem to fit together properly now). While I haven't shot one yet, I did pick one up and was able to give it the close eyeballing and found it to be 100% improved over the old one's. It was in the same price field as the Rock Island. AND, it isn't made in the Phillipines like the RIA- the Auto Ordnance is at least machined, fitted, and assembled on this continent.

I'm going to use the words "clip" and "Long Colt" every chance I get. It grinds my gears to see new members attacked when we all know dang good and well what's being refered to.

From what I have read, Kahr made few quality improvements.

From what I have heard the current Firestorm 1911s are made in the Phillipines like RIA. They are no longer made by Llama. Mark

Note that Firestorm and American Classic are apparently one and the same. See the review at: http://www.gunblast.com/Firestorm-1911Deluxe.htm

The current Firestorm 1911s are made by Metro Arms in the Phillipines and have no connection to the earlier Llama made 1911s. Most reviews I have seen have been positive.
Checkout www.bersatalk.com for some more info.

Me again, I was told the DOUBLE STAR 1911 45ACP 5" Milspec is an excellent base gun in the $400.00 range. Made in Kentucky I think.

I have a firestorm DLX. I'm a retired police officer, pistol team member, shooting coach. This 1911 shoots as well as any out of the box 1911 you can buy. High dollar race guns and PPC custom jobs excepted. Not just a great value. . . an outstanding machine.

Opinions vary. Definitely not junk. The ones I've seen have terrific fit and finish. Don't know how they're making them for $400+ dollars. Much nicer looking then the Rocks I've seen, except for the wierd skeletonized trigger.

How many folks you know who buy a $400 handgun are planning on putting 10,000 rounds through it? Not a convincing argument, but you have solidified your opinion.
