Advice needed on Win Md 12 20ga vent skeet gun.PICS ADDED

I ran across a beautiful Md 12 at lunch today. It is a 1959 production Md 12 20 ga with a vent rib and a WS-1 choke. UNFORTUNATELY the stock has been cut for a kid and a pad added. Also there is a Poly-Choke(deluxe) on the barrrel. The bluing is perfect and the forearm is perfect. The wood is very nicely figured(fiddleback) with few if any dings. Would this have been a factory rib? It is not marked. I would have guessed it as a Simmons but again it is NOT marked. Can anyone take a guess to a value this gun may have? I am thinking about picking it up for my Son to use for birds and Skeet shooting. I can buy it for $400.

In a tread on a M-12 20 gauge from last March, one contributor opined: "You can't touch a m-12 20 gauge with any style rib for under $1000.00."
It makes $400 sounds like a steal.
Does the rib continue over the receiver?

yes the rib is over the receicer. It is NOT a duckbill type. I think I will get it tomorrow if it is still there. Thanks.

Still worth the price. If I bought it, I would immediately send the barrel to Polychoke anyway for their Deluxe model. You already have the Poly installed. You will have a vey versatile gun for anyhting you need a gun for. No gun goes into my safe without a Poly. The cut-off stock is probably why you are getting a good price. If you are going to use it in the field, looks don't matter.

Believe me, you will love the Poly.

I'm sure you've been checking the M 12 listings, field guns in poorer condition are asking much more than $400. The one you're looking at sounds like a fancy, if not a competition grade. You mentioned the stock had been cut, but not the barrel. Just how short is barrel, it it proportional to a youth gun? Eventually, you can always add to the stock, but the barrel's a different story. I'd rather have a fancy stock with a busy butt than a full length Plain Jane piece of wood.

To me, the big question would be, does the gun fit your son? What else can you get for the same money? I just googled a listing asking $415 for a used 870 Wingmaster youth gun with an 18 1/2-in barrel and a 12-in LOP. The same list has a M12 20-gauge skeet with Simmons rib asking $2,095.

I bought it today. Poly-Choke and all. I figured the most I could waste was $400. Here she is.

+1 Do you feel a little guilty for "stealing" that M-12?
