Colt Goverment Model 9mm series 80

Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone can help me out with a Colt 1911 question.
I was at a gunshow today and did some horse trading and wound up with a Colt 1911 Goverment Model series 80 in 9mm. It is in great almost unfired condition and I was told that they were limited production. The serial # is FR067XX
It seems like a nice piece with Black wraparound rubber grips, Gold Colt Medallions and an xtra clip. With the trades and cash I ended up with 800.00 in it. If anyone has had any experience or knows about the production #s it would be much appreciated.
Best Regards,Troy

Congratulations, Troy, you got a great gun at a fair price.

Based on your description and the serial number, it sounds like you have a Mk IV Series 80 model - a nice blued gun with polished flats. I have never seen any information on the production statistics for Mk IV Series 80 guns in 9mm, but the model was not a special limited edition and your gun's serial number indicates a production run of 5,800 or more.

Colt later made the M1991A1 model in 9mm, with a production run of less than 1,000 units.

Colt 9mm

Thank you,
I was told that the 9mm was manufactured in 1999 only ???
Either way I like it is a good looking piece.
Best Regards,Troy

I was just told that they were produced in 1999 only ???
Colt's Series 80 modifications were introduced in 1983. The M1991A1 Series 80 was introduced in 1991. The distributor's invoice to the dealer from whom I purchased my M1991A1 9mm (Model O1992) was dated 1998.

Since there is so litle information available about Colt's more recent production of 9mm pistols, I am going to start a thread to collect serial number and production date information.
