First Colt: Range Report
Bought a blue, Detective Special from an online forum member who'd bobbed the hammer and did a trigger/action job on it. It has the factory rubber grips and appears to be a 1978 model with an "S" serial number.
I've been shooting and carrying a nickel, Smith 36 with boot grips, semi-bobbed hammer, and a trigger job. I thought I could shoot it well. Enter the Colt. There's just no comparison in my confidence and ability to shoot it. I'd read about the superior Colt accuracy, but now I've experienced it. I ended up shooting it double action at 15 yards and was still able to group COM shots. Right out of the chute, and I mean within a dozen rounds I was shooting accurately and confidently. I'll be adding Jim Badger boot grips because they're more compact, and I have to carry in a SmartCarry. But friends and neighbors, from here on out the badguys better think twice because I'll be carrying a COLT. |

It is hard to beat that line of Colts. They are midway in size between the S&W J frame and the K frame. This makes them only a little less handy than the J but pays off in one extra round and better handling.
I'm glad you like it but disappointed that you let the "secret" out. tipoc |

welcome to the club buddy, colts are a very expensive habit, i don't know if you read my anaconda first impressions thread but it seems that every time i try to purchase a new toy, it turns into a colt. congrats on your new purchase!

I've got a Detective too, mine's a Series II, 1961. Love it.
Here's a good article on the Detective from Guns & Ammo awhile back. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/classics/ct0507/ |
