Meriden Firearms Co.

Searching for more information on my Grandfathers 12 guage double barrel shotgun. Manufactured by The Meridan Firearms Co. Meriden CT. July 7, 1907.

It was a working mans shotgun sold by Sears in 1905-1915. My Grandfather got it as a young man in 1907.

Wondering if it has any 'real' value today besides my personal value as a Family Heirloom?

Thanks,

Tom Vormwald

If plain jane, not too much, probably a few hundred. They did offer several engraved models which would bring more, some much more, depending on amount of engraving. Engraved guns not very common.

How did you arrive at the precise manufacture date? If it's a working gun in really good shape it's worth around 150.00-200 bucks.

Meriden

Tom: To determine a value, we need more info. Is it a Hammerless or exposed hammer. Post the lettering found on the water table (where the barrels rest on the frame) and all other markings. Also describe the condition and the barrel length and we can get an idea as to value.. JFC

Meridan

I will try take some pictures of the shotgun tomorrow and try to post them here. The manufacture date is stamped on the top between the barrels, along with the Company name.

Meriden

If the date stamped on your gun is 1907, it's not the year of Mfg, but a patent date, Meriden never stamped the date of Mfg. on their guns.. J F C

RE: Look like it

Rigby1962 - That's similair to what it looks like. Though I've never done anything to the stock or barrel. Except clean and oil the gun.

It does have some minor pitting on the barrel and the bluing has been worn off cleaning the rust off.

Hammers are inside, barrels are about 42" with a bead sight in the center.

All in all it has sentimental value to me only. Being that is was my Grandfathers Gun till 1972, My Fathers Gun till he passed in 1990, now in my possesion as 1 of the many weapons I own.

Thanks to you all for responding. I'll post some pics by this weeked so you can better judge it.

Been busy this past week with gearing up to Deploy again. I'm with the Ohio National Guard.
