Need advice on finding "tactical" ar-15

My dad and I were in a gun store and a rifle caught his eye. Much to my surprise it was a tactical looking AR-15!! (He's pretty much only liked more old-school bolt rifle designs). Seemed a little over done to me, but either way, I'm impressed that he is interested in that type of rifle. I'm pretty sure the one in the shop was a one-off someone customized.

A basic description was a fluted heavy barrel, bipod, quad rail, some kind of boot-looking adjustable stock (not your standard m4 stock) with a Konus scope, all pulled together with a tastefully done OD Green paint job. Not all parts were colored, but who ever designed it did a pretty good job. He wants it to be chambered in .223

Is there any companies that produce a similiar rifle? I'm afraid he's SOO new to AR's that trying to build him one would be a nightmare.. entirely too many options to show him. Not to mention I'm not extremely experienced at it either.

Price and scope I'm hoping to keep it close to $2000. Thanks for your help!

That sounds a lot like a VLTOR Clubfoot stock. Before he's settled on that I would use Google Shopping and look for a Magpul CTR stock and see what he thinks.

Smith & Wesson makes an AR-15 with khaki furniture on it. The stock and forearm can be sold for near new price and that will fund similar products in black, green, tan, olive drab or black...

Magpul PRS stock has adjustments for cheekweld and length of pull.

Any maker out there can do a quad rail heavy barreled AR-15. I'd say contact the guys at J and S http://www.jsgunparts.com/store/ and get one built to your spec.

You can get AR's in just about any configuration you can imagine. I would go to some of the major manufacturer's websites and look at what's available and go from there. Some places to start would be Rock River Arms, Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, Armalite, and many others that will have configurations you may be interested in.

I would buy a bare bones AR and then tacticool it myself so that every piece is EXACTLY what I wanted.

Thanks for all the input. J&S option looks like a real possibility. I'm still talking with my dad trying to figure out exactly what it is he wants. For all I know he may surprise me and say he wants to build one, lol. I really like the magpul PRS. That's what I would pick.
