Need help! Ruger SBH Hunter grips
I am wanting to put Hogue monogrips on my SBH Hunter. Does anyone know which one to go with. When I look at different websites it says they fit the super blackhawk with square trigger guard, and to oreder the ones for the blackhaks for round trigger guards, except hunter models. Help with this matter would be much appreciated.

I have a SBHH Bisley model and have been wanting Hogue grips for it so bad that I called Hogue and they said that they do not make the rubber overmolded grips for this model. That was about a year or two ago. I didn't ask about any of the other Hogue grips. Good luck!

Hey man, you never said if the grips fit. What was the verdict? I've got a SBH Hunter and want to know what my options are.
Thanks, Greg |

The SBH Hunter variant is the same basic grip frame as the standard SBH "squareback" grip frame found on SBH models with barrels longer than 5.5".
The only difference is the triggerguard - the Hunter is rounded at the rear instead of squareback. If you use grips meant for the "squareback" grip frame, it will look just a little bit funky just behind the triggerguard. This isn't hard to deal with and can be ignored if you want - it's just a cosmetic issue. With black rubber grips meant for a squareback, you can fill in the resulting gap with black silicon sealer or black "shoe goo" rubber repair cement. Hogue is saying "doesn't fit" because a lot of people would balk at the cosmetic issue involved. I think it can be dealt with easily enough, esp. with black rubber grips. Or just ignored...

To add to what Jim posted, the Super Blackhawk with 5.5" or shorter bbls. has the standard Blackhawk grip frame with round trigger guard, instead of the square backed trigger guard and Dragoon style frame which is bigger and comes standard on the 7.5" and longer bbls.

Rubbers on a single action...:barf: Rubbers don't allow the gun to do what the design is supposed to allow for, rolling in the hand.

Why would you want to completely destroy the superior handling qualities of a fine single action by installing oversized rubber grips?

Hogue grips
I have the Hogue "rubber" grips on my Ruger GP100 6" and love them. They were part of the reason for this choice. I like having more control when shooting the 357mags @158gr.

i like the pachmayr decelerator grips. i get more control, and less felt recoil than with the slippery wood grips.

I didn't realize this thread came back to life. I did order the grips that state would fit both but they did not. Can't remember exactly what was wrong but I could not make them fit and returned them.

I installed the grips for the dragoon style on my SBH, a SBH Hunter and both of my BFRs w/rndd triggerguard w/a lil fitting. I like them as I shoot better w/'em and its easier to hold w/the finger grooves.
There may be an lil' additional gap w/the rndd triggerguard but its not all that bad. The only ones who would notice would be like my wife who must have the lace doilly dead center on the top of the VCR. |
