.38 S&W Special CTG age?

I have a S&W .38 Special that I'm trying to find out an age or any other info on. I was told it was my great great grandfather's when he was a police officer . Not familiar at all with guns, so bear with me! I believe the S/N is on the butt of the gun? It says: 266xxx. Any info at all is appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

That's recent production. Book only goes to 2004. You'll have to call S&W customer service to get the DOB.

Sorry I won't be answering any more of these requests. It appears my "INSULTING BEHAVIOR" ruffled the feathers of someone in the "COOL KIDS LUNCH CLUB"

1 old 0311-1,

I've seen nothing but you being helpful. It's been pretty nice having someone else to answer S&W questions.
Please reconsider.

Gun new to me...

I just received a relative's S&W 38 revolver. It's serial number on the butt is
V12***, and it is only 5 digits. From what I have found on this forum, this may be from the 40's. It is nickel with ivory colored plastic grips. Can anyone confirm the approximate date for me?

The standard Catalog of S&W lists your serial number S818xx as being as in made 1951 or 1952. The Pre model 23's were made 1950 to 1966 serial number range S57000 to S261999.

Identification Assistance

I was cleaning out a house recently, and stumbled upon these two S&W revolvers. The top one is a model 36-1, because that is stamped on the gun, the bottom one is the one I need help identifying.

The bottom is marked with a C then a bunch of space and then 41904. With the cylinder out there is a big 7, then 71363 below it. It looks kind of like a Model 10, but most of the pictures I've seen of a model 10 have more space between the end of the push rod and the end of the barrel.

Victory model. They were made during WWII for the Military. SN's ran from V1 in 1942 to V769000 in 1944.

Not much to go on. S&W reused the same serial numbers on many different models of guns over the years.
Did you take the serial number from the bottom of the grip butt and include and letter prefixes, if any? See pic.
What caliber? How many rounds does it hold? Does it have a modern swing out cylinder or one that the barrel and cylinder tip down to load/unload?

38 Military & Police. SN's ran from C1 in 1948 to C223998 in 1951.

SW 617 no dash 6" SS

The serial number is BEW8XXX

I'm thinking it might be 1988? Can you confirm that it is or isn't

BEP was Dec 89 and BFN Mar 90 so you're in between that.

Victory Model .38

Thanks for the info on the serial #. I always assumed it was his service revolver in the local law enforcement from the '50's. Had no idea it was that old. What is the chance it was plated originally?

357 Magnum

Hi. I inherited a S&W .357 Magnum when my Dad passed away. It has been in a drawer for a long time and I really have no idea how old it is. I know it says the following on it:

Inside the frame: Mod 13-2
In front of the cylinder: EV 67484
Serial number: 6D67XXX

Can anyone help narrow down its date of manufacture? Thanks in advance.
