New gun suggestions?

I am looking for a sxs double. My criteria is simple. I would like the following.
Short
Inexpensive
And able to shoot a variety of loads. I know nothing about sxs doubles.

Sorry to sound cruel but this became clear when this was one of your requirements:

SxS and O/U guns are inherently very expensive to produce if you are looking for any kind of quality.

Tell us what your intentions are and we might can steer you into something that meets your needs - but if you really do want a SxS that is at least fair quality you are either going to shell out big bucks or shop for a quality older gun.

I want this for a general knock around gun. I would also consider used. I would like to use it for small game and as a truck gun for long trips. I often wish I kept a shotgun somewhere in the truck and a simple double seems like it would do the trick.

The only SxS that would fall into the affordable - but decent category are used guns made a couple of generations ago. The classic example is the Savage 311. You can get them in 12ga for $250 to $300 if you aren't looking for a showpiece. 20ga or 16ga will sell for more. .410 will sell for an arm and a leg.
