7MM REM MAG Questions
Just set up a new Lee full length sizer in 7MM REM MAG and it is shaving a very small sliver of brass off the case. Is this normal, to much lube, to little lube?
I didn't see this problem when I did my 30.06 rounds. These are once fired Winchester cases and I did clean them. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Sounds like you have a bad die.A picture would be good.Too little lubricant would make it stick but shouldn't put a scratch in it.Is it always in the same place?

Did you clean the die and check the inside for burrs? I have found it necessary to polish the inside of some dies. People recommend Flitz as a polishing compound but just use really fine emory paper.
If you haven't tried it you might look into Imperial Die Sizing Wax. IMO it's the best lube on the market.

The marks show up about 3/8 inch from the bottom of the case and travels about 1/4 inch. It's also only about a quarter of the way around the circumference of the case. I wouldn't have thought a brand new die would need polishing, but I'm new to this. Are these safe or should I File 13 them? I'm lucky I can check my e-mail with out injury let alone upload a photo of a case. Thanks.

Send the die and the cases to Lee. They will replace it for free. Call them and explain what is happening before you send anything.
I would not use the damaged cases.

Here is a photo of a 280AI that has been shot a bunch. Those tool marks on the brass at the head end of the die are normal.Any deep scratch is not.
