Need immediate help here: think I am fallin off the wagon again

I decided to cut back on allowin new guns to come and stay at my house for awhile.

Been doin pretty good till today. I dropped by the local dealer and happened to pick up and fondle a Rugar Super Redhawk Alaskan .454 Casull or .45 Colt. That is one hunk of gun. I speaks Power with a capital P. Now, I don't need it, I don't live in the wilderness and the last time I went to Alaska it was on a cruise ship. I would not use it for home defense because I don't wanta shoot through brick walls and get the neighbor's. However, I just think it's bout the coolest revolver around. I would just take it to the range and blow up the targets.

Please, help me...give me more reasons that I should be ashamed of myself for even thinkin bout getting this gun. My wife doesn't worry about me sneekin off with another woman, unless she owns a gun shop. She knows when I am not to be found I am probably with a gun somewhere.

I know you guys have lots more guns than I do and have a need for each and everyone. So help me before get as many as you have.

Here's most of the ones I have....is this enough or maybe an Alaskan would fit somewhere in this picture?

Oh...forgot to ask.....anyone have an Alaskan that can tell me about it? Recoil, pro and con stuff?

first... Its a gun... do we need a justifiable use for it to buy it? I thought not... make it yours capitan.

second... I don't own one, but I have shot it with 454 loads in place. Its well, lively to say the least. Not abusive, but you won't forget to focus on the proper two handed grip, thats for sure.

I'd much rather live in a country where we buy guns out of sheer desire, than to live in a country where we flat can't no matter what.

Happy Blastin'

I had a debate like this with myself the other day. I was looking at an Alaskan. It was awsome. But i said i had no need for a short that short nosed .44mag. So i bought a redhawk with 4in barrel instead
much more practical Shooting it this weekend. Awesome guns, i say get it

I have the 7 1/2" SRH in .454. I use this gun a lot for handgun hunting. When I saw the Alaskan, I said I had to have it, which is really hard since I already have the long version. I'll probably buy one anyway.

The only proper thing to do is to send me the ones you have now so you wont feel so bad about getting new ones. GEEZE, the things I offer to do to help out a fellow forum member!

(Nice collection, BTW)

Let's see...
It looks to me like you have .32, .380, 9mm, .38/357 and .45 covered.

Unless one of those Colt wheelguns is a .22, I don't see a .22LR revolver or auto in your battery. That's a big oversight. (Is that a nickle Police Positve Special?)

If you're eager to spend money on something that'll produce noise & flash, buy a snubby .357 Magnum and load with 158gr JSP ammo. And hang on tight.

Personally, I'd think a Ruger single action in .45 Colt would be a better choice. If not that, then the SRH in .44 Mag should help you drain your wallet at a record pace, but not as bad as the .454.

It's your money and your domestic tranquility to decide on. Just let us know what happens.

Do you have a Dillon?

S esq.

Alaskan's are awesome. Ignore those who haven't shot em. To me, even in .500JRH, they are pussycats...

That is a Colt Viper...I like them Colt "snakes", but don't fire that anymore, it's becoming a collectable.

And I appreciate all you guys help, however, your not much help in preventing adding another to the stable. But thanks.

Unless you have a range in your yard, I bet it is hard to keep a passing aquaintance with how all of them shoot. If you can't find time to shoot them they are just 800$ paperweights.

Tom2,
As a matter of fact, I shoot everyone cept the USMC Vietnam commemorative that will go to my children, and the Colt Viper that my father left me (it has become an almost collectable along with the Colt Boa). The FOP range is about 5 min away. They charge a huge $25/year for right to fire there. Go 24/7 with your own key. Life is good.

Nice collection Duke. Some class pistols there.

Looks like you need a Anaconda and a Diamonback to keep your other reptiles company

I pretty much lost any hope of rationalizing my gun purchases when I got a ruger p345 in july, then in august I got a colt 1991. and I still want to get a glock 21 or a xd45. and lets not forget my smith & wesson wheelgun addiction. I only have one now, but I'd like to change that.

It's time for an intervention! Give me all the guns, and if you feel you just HAVE to have another, buy it and give it to me. That way you won't feel "dirty" afterwards. If we ever determine you are on the straight and narrow again, I might consider letting you handle one of your guns. As long as you promise to clean it when you are done, that is.

OK Duke, you buy that gun. I am using you as my control.(I know we both have the same sickness)

I bought a new G33 last week, but somebody said you can't have Just one Glock so I went and got a G19 to be its stable mate.

I weened out all of my First guns (all were bad choices made on a slim budget)

This is my collection of Handguns (all within the last 8mos)

So as long as you are doing it, I can point my wife to you and say, "see he is doing it too!"

Been a sight change in plan....getting the HK P7

For real....it was a well planned out purchase....thought about it for about 5 min....said its only money and hide it from the wife. It should be here about Tuesday.

Oh, and don't worry those of you who only buy what you shot. I will shot it. As matter of fact, somebody goin shot the guns I don't...may be my kids or grandkids....enjoy.

Bought mine about a month ago and finally got to shoot it this weekend. Its a real baby with .45 LCs, but the .454s will sure wake you up. Not painfull but they sure get your attention.

Hello, I am TheNatureBoy, and I'm a semi-auto lover. There, I said it. I know the feeling my brother. I too have fallen off the handgun wagon many times. The only promise I will make is that I won't buy another one til I see the next one I like. Duke, we are what we are. No getting around that. We love burners. Any time we go to one of our favorite gun shops determined not to purchase/put on lay away we're already doomed and we know it. When we touch/fondle its all over. The above picture is incomplete without that cannon. Do the right thing Duke. Make that purchase.

P.S. As long as its ok with your wife and you're not taking away from you family : )
