Wayne LaPierre's speech in favor of disarmed victims in schools

Speech by Wayne LaPierre
http://www.nra.org/Speech.aspx?id=6043

But the policies of the National Rifle Association have become so widely mis-characterized that America can't keep in focus a clear understanding of what our principles are.

So I would like to take this opportunity to clearly state our positions in a comprehensive way.

More than anything, I want to frame my remarks as part of a constructive, respectfully-conducted discourse that will surely follow in the weeks to come.

I wouldn't stand before you today if I didn't believe, and I couldn't prove, that our common-sense policies can have a more immediate impact on violence, and make more citizens safer, than anything that anyone else is proposing.

So I'd like to speak in response to the President's recent press conferences and news appearances. And please, listen not just for what we've done, but for what more we can all do.

First, we believe in absolutely gun-free, zero-tolerance, totally safe schools. That means no guns in America's schools, period ... with the rare exception of law enforcement officers or trained security personnel.

Time to stop emailing your congressman and start emailing Wayne.

Oh yeah total safe...... WAIT thats what VT was... it was "Totally safe"

Yep Brady's blame the NRA, guess they think that because they are so used to pushing stuff that no one believes in that they think that the NRA is doing the same. And they are right in this case, the NRA is pushing a policy that I don't believe in.

Edit: Well its from eight years ago..... So I guess that I let it go.

I'm wondering if his context is schools up to high school level. That, I may understand. But, in light of the VT incident, I hope he doesn't advocate that nonsense in colleges and universities. Some are of legal age to exercise their right to arm themselves by then...

He's talking about high schools and elementary schools following Columbine in 99, not talking about college campuses. You are mischaracterizing his words.

That's what I thought...I was wondering if his statement was recent. The red flag went up when Virginia Tech wasn't even mentioned in it...

Hey Brent, at least you could have put a time and context on it. You sure you are not from the Brady Campaign. Hopefully most people who read that took it in context and time period. I don't always or totally agree with Wayne or the NRA for that matter but they stand as the only truly effective National organization to protect our gun rights.

I belong to a number of smaller state orgs. as well to help out locally as well.

This is the current statement about VT.

Quote:
The National Rifle Association joins the entire country in expressing our deepest condolences to the families of Virginia Tech and everyone else affected by this horrible tragedy.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families.

We will not have further comment until all the facts are known.

Brent, couldn't you have just said you don't like the NRA? It would have been every bit as effective as posting something from an 8 year old speech.

For stirring the pot and being disingenuous at the same time...

Closed.
