noob question: How to tell what year gun was made?

I am relatively new to the gun scene, I recently bought a Taurus PT92 AFS SS. I have fired guns before and all that, but I never really looked into the different models that much and the specifics of the different companies and even the ammo. I'm still learning, but one question Im almost embarrassed to ask at the gun shop is this, how do you tell the age of a gun? I bought my gun used, but still in pretty good condition. It does look like its a slightly different model than what Ive been seeing sold as new. Is there a date code cast into the frame, or serial number? Thanks for helping out the new guy

In your case, write Taurus and ask them. BATFE requires them to keep extensive records about firearms sold in the US.
