The "Assault Weapon Prohibition and Licensing Act of 1999" passed the New York State Assembly, went to the State Senate, and was recommitted to Education.
It was originally its own bill, but the Assembly attached it to the bill A6899 "Enacts education and juvenile justice reform" and passed it. You can read about the bill at http://www.senate.state.ny.us/ . Then click on "Bills/Laws", then "Search All New York Legislative Bills". Type "A6899" in the search and press Enter. The text for the Assault Weapons Bill starts at the end of page 41. What can you do about it? Go to http://www.senate.state.ny.us/ and click on the "Senators" button. This will give you the names, phone numbers, addresses, and e-mail addresses of all the New York State Senators. If you don't think it can happen here, think about California. Then realize that this bill PASSED the Assembly. And it's coming to a town near you! |

Tortuga, What's with the Senate E-mail addresses, the e-mail gets returned. Do you have the correct ones?

I generally write letters and make phone calls. From what I understand, e-mails hold little weight with our representatives.
But, I tried it anyway, and sent an e-mail to my rep, Suzi Oppenheimer at OPPENHEI@SENATE.STATE.NY.US. I got her address right of the Senate's web site. The e-mail went through fine and I have yet to receive a rejection notice. Perhaps the rep you're writing changed their address. If there's any way I can get you specific information, let me know. |
