S&W 3913 Grips

I recently purchased a used S&W 3913 and I am interested in changing the grips. Hogue website lists rubber grips as available for this model. I can not see how to remove the original plastic grips from the gun. I would like to know how to do this prior to ordering new grips.
Any help would be appreciated.

The 3913 grips are held in place by friction and small extrusions in the grip itself that fit into the pistol's frame. When I got my 3913 years ago there was a recall on the original grips so S&W sent me their replacement grips. Instructions went like this:

Insert a thin flat tool between the grip and frame at the front of the pistol. Gently lift up and push back to move the grip slightly rearward. Then do likewise on the other side of the pistol. Once the grip is out of the frame recesses it can be pushed backward and removed.

Good luck.
