I am going to start reloading for .40 soon and will start low, but wanted to know what the average fps for the round is on a target round. What is a .40 traveling at in a box of say, 180grn Fiochi? or 165grn? I'm not talking about corbon's go fasters but regular ammo. I would eventually like to work up my load to match the factory ammo specs which is why I'm asking.

Thanks in advance,
Evan

Recommend taking 180g's to 920-980fps, 165g's (don't use them myself) to 1000-1060fps.

Use cases that were never fired in Glocks, OAL 1.130+.005/-.005", and slower powders like Power Pistol, HS6, AA7, 3N37, Unique.

http://greent.com/40Page/ has a listing of advertised velocities for various calibers and manufacturers. Depending on how much reloading experience you have you may want to avoid the 180's until you are familiar with the properties of the round, take a look at "Why You Shouldn't Use 180gr Bullets" at the above link.

I also agree with WESHOOT2, load them long and use slower powders. I use mostly Universal and Blue Dot, and load them to an OAL of 1.145, .010 longer than SAAMI max, but works well in my guns.
