In a stock (factory) barrel 70 Series Colt or a Kimber the following load has worked well for me, in MY IRONS, WORK UP FROM BELOW.

5.2 grain Red Dot with 200 grain, similar to H&G 68 .452" SWC, hard cast. OAL 1.260, dia over taper crimp .470, using just about any available brass, commercial or military. Use for IDPA also, gets just over 900 ft/sec.

It might or might not work well in other pistols, only way to tell is to try.

3.2 grains titegroup 200 gr lead, .45 1.260oal. 600fps, and very little recoil. you need a 10 # progressive wolf recoil spring in a kimber gold match. Most awesome plate load I have ever shot. power factor of 109

4.0 Clays, 200 LSWC, 1.250, 178 PF, or, 3.3 Clays, 255 LSWC, 1.250, 178 PF. 200 is a bit snappier, 255 is really nice on recoil.

5.9g W231

IMI cases

CCI300

200g LSWC (try Bull-X)

OAL = 1.258"

This load makes IPSC Major from 4.5-5" guns, even on really cold days.
