I'm getting very frustrated trying to figure the right load for a .45 ACP (in a Government model 1911) using 200gr. LSWC and Universal Clays.

Hodgdon says 6-6.7 gr.; another loader says 5.4gr., etc. My questions are (in the real world):

1. What is the correct middle range for 200gr. LSWC and Universal Clays?

2. What is the lightest load you have shot with this configuration?

A lot could depend upon which 200gr LSWC with which the data was developed. Some seat far deeper in the case while others have more weight in the nose, like the H&G #68. Of course, some may state SWC but they used a swaged version instead of cast, or even a jacketed projectile.

Check the cartridge over-all length, and I suspect that you'll see the difference between the data sources.

I had excellent results with 6.3 gr. Universal behind the 200LSWC in my COLT Govern. 70 series.
Excellent precision.
Hope this can help you

I use 6.7 grains of Universal Clays behind a Grier's hard cast 200 grain SWC. I load them to OAL of 1.260 and have been very pleased with the results....makes major (at least in my gun), leaves little or no unburned powder, measures consistenly, and gives decent accuracy (better than me).

I started at about 6.0 and worked up from there.

I have had good results with 6.5 grains of Universal Clays and a 200 gr. cast SWC.

You might consider W231 with that bullet.
