Which Leupold Rings for a Ruger M77?

I need to buy some Leupold rings for my Ruger M77 All-Weather Stainless 308 (how's that for a title?).

The Ruger rings that came with the gun are cast metal and actually cracked in the installation process...anyway, so I want some black matte Leupold rings to go with the black matte Leupold scope that I have.

So, here is my question: Can I use low rings (instead of medium or high)?

The scope I have is a Leupold 3-9x40mm.
