Beretta 92 FS Compact

Traded off 2 junker guns for a Italian 92 FS compact. According to the seller it was a personal weapon of a Navy Chief who actually used it in Iraq. Nice story, but true? Who knows.
Being my first Beretta, I can't be happier. Any information on these fine pieces? Also, how do I tell when it was made? (serial # E534**Z).
Secondly, regarding magazines. Do military issue fit the compact, or is it compact only? I recieved 1 issue mag, but it won't hold the slide open.

Wow, didn't even know that Beretta made a 92fs Compact, heck, I didn't even know that there was a 92 Compact of any sort. Can't tell by the pictures, what is the barrel length?

Yes the issue mags should fit, but they will stick out. Only the compact mags will fit flush.

Good score.Italian made Beretta's will have a 2 letter date code stamped on the right side trigger guard.Check the link below to see when it was made.
http://www.beretta-e.org/index.php/Date_Codes
If it's BUSA made you will need to call BUSA and give them the serial #.
1-800-636-3420.
Other Beretta 92 Compacts include:
92FS Centurion(full sized grip compact slide)
92FS Compact L Type M(single stack 8rd mags)
