New to Me Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag.
I picked up a Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag in blue yesterday and was wondering what SD load for the house to use. I've got a Taurus PT99 for one of my CCW's also and I've got a Colt Trooper 357 on layaway. I know the 44mag is a little over kill for SD but I couldn't resist the feel of the gun in my hand and got I hope a good price for it. $375 out the door at a pawnshop I frequent because they get guns in from several other stores and usually have a good selection. Checked out the gun useing the Revolver check out article on another forum and it was very tight. Can't wait to get to the range and let this BAD BOY loose. I was reading the book "Ruger and His Guns" and this is one of his strongest designs, and of course I've always wanted a "Dirty Harry".

First thing you're gonna want to do to that is change out the stock grips. I'm partial to the hogue hardwood monogrips, but the rubberized ones are cheaper and work fine too. Pachmyer will also take the sting out of the grip design that gun has.
Inside the house, use 44 specials. Magnums don't seem like a good idea. Once you swap that grip for something that fits your hand right, you'll have the best 44 DA revolver on the market. |

Sd 44
Definately .44 Special. Or, .44 Mag glaser, Win Silvertips would not be bad, as they are not full bore .44 mag. Or basically any SWC at 1000-1100fps. JHP at that speed is fine too. Full house .44 mag definately too much for homoe defense, unless attacked by bears....
