Hodgedon controls Winchester powders

I just read this. I wonder how much longer these powders will be available?

I've not seen anything about this, but given how popular some of the Winchester powders are, I sort of doubt that they would do anything rash.

231 is supposed to be the best selling powder available, both commercially and for home reloaders.

Hodgdon doesn't actually make any smokeless powder, and I do know that that they purchase at least some from Olin. HS6 and HS7 are the same as several discontinued Winchester powders, 540 and 571 (I believe) ... and HP38 is the same as W231. Perhaps more of the Hodgdon line is currently produced by Olin (and/or will be in the future).

It appears as though Olin will continue to actually produce the powder, but that Hodgdon will handle marketing, sales, load development, etc. Like Mr. Irwin said, it doesn't appear to be anything rash.

Hodgdon had already taken over IMR - I think just the US distributor, not the factory in Canada - so they are getting control of a lot of the business. Really just them and Alliant with a few small players like Ramshot and Vihtavuori.

IMO, Hodgdon will do a better job of selling Winchester powders than Winchester.

I switched from WST to Clays for shotgun because Clays has a lot more "loads" with different hulls, wads, primers, etc. Winchester had very few and didn't seem interested in expanding.
