.224 accelerator in .300 savage?

I'm thinking about getting into reloading. A round that I have been thinking of trying is possibly a .224 55 grn bullet with an accelerator into .300 savage for a varmint round. I recently received a type 99 arisaka that has been recalibrated from 7.7 to .300 savage- any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!- mark

My first thought is--that's what reloading is all about!

Just stay safe, don't try to push it too fast, and give us a range report!

I've really tried to read a lot of the posts here, almost all advising baby and half steps. I like that safety is a big concern!! If and when I find anything out, I'll certainly share the info- mark

load up some tracer rounds for it too.

US military 30 cal tracers will suprise your buddies when you launch them through that .300.

I loaded some for my dad for the heck of it.

Drive a soft lead slug such as an 00 buckshot down the bore and measure it before you spend any money. The bores on the 7.7 run big. If your barrel is .311 or so, it may shoot .308 diameter bullets reasonably well although you would be better off with .311. If it's really big, you may have to go to cast bullets.

I doubt that there is any chance of an accurate Accelerator load.
