Kuhl's or Bawean deer Facts & Photo
![]() This species originates from a small Indonesian island named Bawean located in the Java Sea. An endangered species with less than 300 deer estimated to exist. Habitiat loss is cited as the primary reason for decline. Native jungles are being cut and replanted with teak trees. These are smallish deer. But wildlife biologists can not agree upon weights and heights. They're often compared to hog deer for size and charactoristics. Trophy hunting for Bawean deer is unknown to me. Jack |

I thought this buck looked mighty tasty, too. Chubby little rascal with a glossy coat. Could be some Texas exotic rancher can get past USDA red tape and start a herd with several breeding pairs. That is, if PETA can be sub-doed.

Looks like Muntjac with attitude! I could use some of those. 300 is a small gene pool even if a big zoo stepped in to breed more.
