Can anyone tell me why an ar15 barrel is suposed to be torqed to 30 foot pounds. A bolt gun set-up for compition will generaly shoot best with very little torqe on the barrel threads. Has anyone out there experimented with less torqe on ar15's.

The slamming of the bolt to the barrel extension during cycling is enough to lossen the barrel nut. HTH
