SWAT Hand Signals

Someone has just posted the familiar, several years old, comical version of SWAT hand signals on another forum. This prompted someone else to ask for a source of the typical signals actually used by various SWAT Units.

This got my interest but searching the web I found only a couple of very limited examples of hand and arm signals used by the U.S. Army in WWII.
I did, however, find most of what I was looking for in a little quick help manual I already owned entitled The Pocket Partner written by Evers, Miller and Glover and published by Blue Willow, Inc.

Beginning on page 25, under a SWAT HAND SIGNALS heading, there are three pages of captioned illustrations attributed to the "...courtesy of SWAT magazine". If this is correct, can you provide additional information on a site where I could read your original article?

Visual signals within special units probably vary greatly depending on the organization/agency. The phonetic alphabet is not even universally standard and neither is the "10 series". Wisely, most agencies probably do not publish - or make public - their visual signals for special units.

SWAT Hand Signals Question

Again, put another way, does anyone have access to an old SWAT Magazine article illustrating SWAT Hand Signals?

SWAT Hand Signals

Okay, you might as well go ahead and let us see the rest of what you've got as I'm sure they're equally humorous. Then I'd like to get back to being serious about really answering my question.

this is from an airsoft website. "My battery died" is talking about a battery powered airsoft gun.

I'm moving your post to the SWAT mag forum where your question will get a (serious) answer from the staff of SWAT magazine.

You owe me a new keyboard! Mine is now covered with the coffee that I was drinking when I viewed your post. That was too funny. Thanks.

OK, I'm bleary eyed and still nursing my first cuppa joe. Better late than never.

Captain38,

Sorry, I don't have that issue or the glossary I made up years ago available to me any longer.

TFL Ambassadors

We absolutely are ambassadors to the world. And a little humor will go a long way in showing that gun owners, LEOs, and service members have a sense of humor and are not dead serious, going into condition orange every time someone gets within a click of us. My humble opinion, lighten up a little. As for hand and arm signals, I can't speak for civilian special reaction forces, but even in the army, where we have a manual with standardized signals, there are a great many different signals used in different units. If someone is able to find the signals used by their local response team, that team needs to work on OPSEC a little harder.
