The S&W machine gun...

Back in 1971 (man that seems like long ago) when I trained in the police academy we fired a S&W machine gun. I'm positive (I think) it was a S&W. Anyone know the model of such a gun? Is it still manufactured?

Most likely the Model 76 -- so far as I know, the only SMG that S&W ever made in the post-war period.

It is not still made in its full auto model. You can still get a transferrable 76 for around $5,000.

IIRC the 76 was a loose copy of the Carl Gustav?

It was made for about 5 years, if that, and not many units were produced.

Some years ago I had the chance to pick one up for $2,100, but simply didn't have the money.

I'm pretty sure that it's still the only machine gun S&W has made for commercial consumption.
