powder for 270wsm

I am in the done working up my load for 223 and now its time for the 270wsm and I was wondering what powders anyone reccomends??!! I am loading a 130gr solid base boat tail, with win lrm primers. for a tikka t3 if that matters

I am trying to decide between a few imr4350, h4350, rl-19, and h414 all caught my eye.

Anyone have any suggestions???

thanks

I believe Hodgdon bought or took over IMR's powder line, and, although they claim to continue the line, one wonders if that makes sense over time. Since IMR 4350 and H-4350 are so close (but not the same) my guess would be we'll see H4350 remain and IMR 4350 disappear over time. So I would concentrate on H4350. However, my experience has been there is very little difference between H4350 and H414, so I use H414 exclusively in my .270 and .270 WSM because it meters better in the powder measure.

I have used RE-19, -22 and -25 in various caliber workups but have never found any that beat the Hodgdon line.

I have a Savage .270 WSM and my problem is not so much finding a powder, but finding a bullet that it likes. H414 in my Win M70 .270 gives me 1.0" groups at 200 yards with a 130gr Hornady SST

my gun shot under one inch with the factory solid base bt so I figured I would give them a shot. federal quit manufacturing the ammo. I was thinking about the 414 for that reason that it would prolly measure a little better than the 4350.

thanks a lot

let ya know how everything goes!!

Just did it this afternoon. Savage in .270 WSM. 150gr Nosler Bal. Tip, 57.0 gr H414, 5-shot group at 100-yd = 0.973". This rifle does not like 130 or 140 gr bullets, so I moved up. 55.0 and 56.0 gr of H414 didn't do anything impressive. Bullets seated 0.02" from rifling. CCI LR Mag primers.

I tried a lot of different powders in my .270WSM. Most of the cyber gurus (at other sites) recommended RL 19 for 130 grain bullets in the .270WSM.
I found RL 22 to be better with 130s in my gun (Win. Mod. 70 Coyote). This is a gun I use for hunting big game, so I have been working only with hunting bullets. I have been getting best groups with 130s, using Nosler Partitions.
With 140s, I have been getting best results from my gun with H4831SC and Hornady SPBT.

But,,, this is simply the case for my gun.
Our range is at 4000'...which may be a factor, too.

I got some good info off the internet. There a lot of load tests at these sites:

www.realguns.com
www.reloadersnest.com

and some good general info at: www.stevespages.com then look for "reloading".
