ww2 1911
my grandmother has a 1911 from ww2. it was her brother's. i dont think it has been fired in quite a while, but last time i got to look at it, it looked like it was kept up. no rust or corrosion. can i shoot this gun or not? will it handle new ammo? thanks

Unless there's a problem, you can shoot it, and shoot it with modern ammo.
I'd recommend shooting standard 230 grain ammo, and not the +P hotter ammo. As a military pistol, it may or may not be reliable with modern hollow-point ammunition. To be on the safe side, have it checked by a gunsmith. Sometimes these souvenir guns may have had parts removed, or may have problems that might be unsafe. |

Hollow Point
I have experenced the hollow point delema on the M1911A1. My best suggestion is not to use them at all. When I tried to use them they would jam almost every time. I even tried other brands and got the same resualts
 . When I use the standary military type ball ammo (FMJ Target) I had no problems  .
