STI or Ed Brown?

$$$Price aside... Which .45 would you choose? STI (double stack- or single) or Ed Brown?

STI Single

I would be afraid to get an Ed Brown pistol dirty

Depends What You're Using it For

I don't know too many STI's that run well out of the box. Personally, if money were no object, I'd have an STI built to my specs rather than take something off the shelf.

If you're asking who builds a better gun out of the box, I'd guess Ed Brown would be the hands down winner.

I have an sti edge that shoots incredible out of the box. I have also shot a trojan that shot very well. I have never fired a Ed Brown pistol, but I buy a lot of parts from Ed Brown an have had nothing but good luck with thier stuff. I would not buy from Wilson Combat because of some customer service issues, and I do not have a very high opinion of Bill Wilson.

Racer...what do you base that statement on exactly?

While all pistols have their lemons, I have heard precious little about problems with STI's

Mine have run flawless...which is an insignificant sample size.

Perhaps your personal experience with them is more broad?

Just the ones I've seen from folks who have them. I've seen a bunch from a few folks in particular who have owned quite a few. Mostly IPSC folks that I shoot with.

Honestly, I thought it was common knowledge. Sorry if I offended.

Um...not the ones I shoot against, nor the Edge that I bought from Dave Dawson.

I suppose it depends upon your application. I think the nod goes to Ed Brown in the single stack category, but you'll pay for it over a Trojan which is an excellent buy for the price. For the double stack guns, you can't beat the 2011 frame and that's why it dominates USPSA competition.

You didn't offend Racer...I just have a small problem with anecdotal evidence

I always like to know where sweeping statements are coming from

I say that I heard from someone that somebody else said a lot of xyz firearms are crap and the next thing you know it is spouted as gospel all over the errornet

Or somebody makes a blanket statement based on the single weapon they own

I was basing my comment on real world knowledge of guns I've seen in action.

I personally have witnessed Trojans and other STI single stacks malfunction as well as an Edge and an open gun (that had been sent back once already). These were all people I know and spoke with them about the situation.

Don't get me wrong; my Limited gun is an STI that's been worked over. I like STI but, at least when it comes to hi-caps, I'd expect to spend some time getting it to run right.

Trust me that I'm not a huge fan of sweeping generalizations heard from somebody who knows some guy....
