On one hand, Canada's numbers are a triumph of wildlife management efforts. On the other hand, resident populations of geese are crap factories. It's unbelievable how much they contribute to algae growth and bacterial problems in the water near my house. This wasn't a problem for migratory populations, but the resident descendants of live decoy birds early last century have got to go.
I have done my part to harvest resident geese. Virginia has a decent arrangement, but I wish I could hunt them even earlier than Labor Day. My sinkbox, punt gun and lantern stand ready for a regulation change
