SWAT On NBC tonight

Cari Champion from NBC affiliate, Channel 5 in West Palm Beach, just left here. They had contacted me yesterday to find out more about S.W.A.T. and she's been peaking in on TFL. I'll reserve final judgement until after the news at 6 tonight, but my first impressions are real favorable.

Cari is not a shooter but she's a real quick study. She impressed me with her grasp of the situation: was not as interested in the bullet comparisons as other angles, as she (rightfully) feels that's been covered. By the time we finished, she'd decided on her focus and filmed the lead-in: "Serious Shooters Speak Out".

Cross your fingers. I asked only one favor if there's time in the report: empasize the fact that proper firearms handling was the primary concern thruout the interview. That's what sets "serious" shooters apart. Don't know if they'll have time in a 90 second sound bite feature or if it'll air at all. Time will tell.

Rich,
I can’t think of anyone better for them to talk to then you. Here’s hoping they air your interview with out any anti-gun alterations or funny business.

… And can I have your autograph …?

After Action report

I can not express how balanced the piece was. From the news anchor's intro that "Responsible Gun Owners are Outraged by these Shootings" to Cari Champion's voice over and everything in between!

Ms. Champion edited the interview to include sound bytes which empasized:
- The .223 is hardly the round of choice of professional "snipers"
- True "Snipers" belong to an elite class of LE and Military warriors.
- What this guy is doing is far more akin to "drive by shootings" than sniper-craft. He may be engaging in "sniper" type activity, but that hardly makes him a professional.

She even included a screen shot of a comment from TFL!!! Someone said "This yo-yo has demonstrated no greater proficiency than the average rural 12 year old."...great visual...great statement! The search function is down...who said that?

Cari mentioned to me that she had seen the thread entitled, "Sniper has TOP GOVERNMENT CLEARANCES"....she could easily have run with that type of angle and painted us as a bunch of whatever....but she didn't. I'm so impressed that I'm moving this into General.

After we talked, I asked her to emphasize to people the type of firearms handling she had seen here....that's the most important message to get out. Responsible shooters understand safety. In her own way, her wrap up did exactly that....by distancing us, as a group, from the criminal element.

She gets my vote as most honest (and sexiest) TV News Reporter East of the Mississippi! (They ought to make her and anchor!)

Rock on.

I believe that quote about the rural 12 year olds came from Art Eatman if I recall correctly.

Way to go, Rich!

I wish I could've seen that. I haven't watched the news in over a week to prevent my eyes from sticking every time I do this:

I'm certain that was Art, I just can't remember exactly which thread. Something about 200 yard shots, IIRC.

Well, if she had to choose someone to quote from TFL, she couldn't have done much better.

Amazing how literacy stands out in a crowd, no?
Smooth Talikin' Art Eatman...I should have known that a pretty girl would naturally gravitate to his prose.

Just reviewed the tape..it was, in fact, our very own Art Eatman...his name shows in the screen shot.

Rae-
Please hold your email. The interview was more positive than I at first reported! I'm going to have it converted to streaming video...tonight or tomorrow, if the video jack on my IBook will do that. In any case, I'll get it up on the server. This young lady deserves High Marks and recognition.

KS-
How cute? How do i answer that without diminishing how good she is at what she does?!!! I can't answer that....world class cute.

You guys crack me up.

It was my thread, that Art had made his comment on.

OH NO!, we can't give the WATERDOG any credit.

Like I said in a follow up post.

This guy doesn't need to shoot to his full capabilities, he is hitting everything he is shooting at, and regardless of shot placement,
he has succeeded at creating a situation, that has the nations ear.

Just because a pitcher can throw a fastball 95mph or better, doesn't mean he has to. He is going to play the game, and walk a hitter when neccessary.

Yep, I saw the report tonight. It really was VERY well done. I didn't see ANY slant made to make shooters look bad. I almost dropped my dinner when they mentioned TFL. Great job Rich!

only shame is that it was only local, not national. I'm looking forward to seeing it when you get it up on the server!
