Why only three rounds now?
Most newer shotguns I have seen only hold 3 rds now. Why?
I was told that it was a hunting restriction put in place years ago. I know it is so in Virginia, I hunt on occation. But why did the manufactures start making guns that only hold 3, period, insted of just supplying a plug with the gun? Is this just one more subtle way to disarm the people of America or what? And what brought about the restriction in the first place?

Which guns are you referring to exactly????
My last 2 repeating shotguns---both purchased recently---hold more than 3 shells----Benelli Nova with mag extension holds 7+1 and a Remington Youth Express holds 4+1.

Last pump I saw with a three shot limit was an old Flite King made by High Standard. HS should stuck to precision 22 target pistols, their forte.
This was a lemon, and also limited to 3 shots w/out a plug. I know of no current US made pumps limited permanently to 3. HTH... |

There are autoloaders that are of limited capacity. The Winchesters only hold 2+1, if I am not mistaken. The same can be said for 10 gauge automatics, with the exception of the Browning, which holds 4+1, AFAIK.

It's a Euro thing!
Most of the newer pumps and Autos are made in Europe. European countries put restrictions on repeaters limiting the number of shells they may hold. Remember Remingtons ill fated 11-96, it held only two in the mag for this reason, it was supposed to be a Euro gun.
Europeans look with disdain at repeating shotguns, feeling they are unsportsmanlike and would only be used by poachers and bloodthirsty savages. Look how many "Progressive" countries have banned pumps. I think the Germans are still sore we used pumps in the trenches in WW1, theyd claimed we were being inhumane!

Guess that answers that... Mine is a Winchester semi-auto..... Oh, and a bolt action marlin that has a clip, that holds only 2, and is more than 20 years old.... Me thinks a good 870 or any Benelli model.....
