Mossberg question.
Ok, I need some help. I'm looking at two shotguns and I need a separate opinion. The first is a Mossberg 500 (12ga, 8+1, $280). The second is a Mossberg Maverick Model 88 (12ga, 8+1, $170). Can someone tell me what, if any, are the differences between these two and why there is such a disparity in price. Thx in advance.

Check out this this thread:
http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...hreadid=130654 I ended up buying an 870 to tinker with but between the Mossberg and the Maverick, it seems like the Mossberg is more durable (has two action bars as opposed to one on the Maverick). Hope this helps... |

Get the 500. it's a durable piece, and should serve you well once you replace the plastic safety button with a metal one.
the metal buttons are available from brownells and aren't expensive. |

I agree with Andrew, get the Mossy. But $280 seems a little high, so I'd shop around.

I paid
$209, on sale at Dunhams, for the Mossy ("Special Purpose", 8+1, 20" cylinder choke, synthetic stock...I assume that's same one you're looking at)

Yeah
that was a coupla years ago now that I think about...Dunham's used to have them on "sale" about every other week...I don't recall seeing that recently, however.

Glad this subject came up. Fleet Farm right now has a deal for a Mossberg 500 combo package for $325. Its lower than the retail sheets on their website... but what do you guys think?

MPT, IMO it's a good price on a good shotgun, but not a rush right over and get one price.
HTH... |
