Ruger 357 N.I.S.?

I was told they were a special run for the naval intelligence service. They have 3" barrels a low gloss finish on the top strap. Fixed sight almost identical to my sp101s. They have N.I.S. stamped on the side of the frame between the cylinder and trigger.

It looks like they are a custom run of the security six to me. Someone here ought to be able to tell me more about them.

Any background or history guys?

They had four come in to the local gun shop over the last week. I admit I'm an addict, I stop by about once a week for something or other. Of the four an employee bought 1, I bought a pair, one still there for sale, not for long as when I brought them home four guys in the family planned a trip on Monday to haggle over the other one.

Both guns I bought were still 95% or better, and passed the "revolver checkout" thread test with flying colors.

Input, thoughts?

BTW: The price was a little steep (I think) at $303 each incl. tax. Plus a box of ammo to sweeten it a little.

US Navy

Naval Investigative Service (NIS)

The standard weapon used to be the 9×33mmR (.357 Magnum) Ruger Model 207 Speed-Six revolver, but has been the 9×19mm SIG-Sauer M11 pistol (P228) since 1992. Other weapons include the 9×19mm IMI Model 39 Uzi and Model 46 Mini-Uzi submachine guns and 18.5×70mmR Mossberg M590 Mariner pump-action shotgun.

This is all I could find out.

Tony

I have a family member that works for the NCIS. When asked what they carry, I got the response that they carry the 9mm SIG, but a couple of the old timers "still have their wheelguns."

Guess this is the revolver referred to... THANKS for the info, interesting stuff.
