Crowning Questions?
What are the advantages of an 11 degree crown over a 45 degree or vice versa?
Also, should crowning a barrel change the POI? I recrowned my SKS and it shot a few inches to the right first time out. It's no problem as it does group tighter, I'm just curious as to why I needed to adjust the sight.

Absolutely square to the bore probably the most important factor.
Your point of impact shift may be due to correction of an old crown problem.....or a new one. Sam |

... it could have changed the barrel harmonics which, IMHO, would more likely cause a shift in POI. Then again, if you didn't rest or bench it in the same manner, that too could have caused the shift.

Both the above are right, I cut a barrel 1/4 inch at a time and re crowned, from 27" down to 22" and had a 1.5 to 2 inch inpact change each time, in this case it was a 22RF barrel and I was trying to tune it for best group.

Thanks guys. I guess what I experienced is within the range of normal. It's amazing what you can learn by trying new stuff.
Anybody have any opinions on the different crown angles?

I have not found that one stile has any advantage over the other, cut the one you like, or is easy for you. I like a resested flat crown.
