Approximate age of S&W 19

I just bought this, LNIB. Blue, 6", adjustable sights, serial no. 7K40XXX, model 19-3.

How old is it, and is there anything I should know before shooting it?

Sometime in 1975, probably first half of the year.

Thanks.

One more question - OK to dry fire, or should I make a habit of using snaps caps or spent casings?

BTW, I stumbled on this from a private seller at a show, and I finally know what all you 19 fans have been raving about...

It's always a good idea to use snap caps.
