Taurus mod.65 grips, what gives??

I just picked up my mod 65 yesterday....the rubber grips on it were beat and didn't fit.So I figured I'd get some Pachmyers...the one's that said they were for a mod.65 round butt were WAY to big. After looking around and trying different grips,I found that the ones that said they were for a Taurus 38 small frame fit perfectly!
What gives.?This gun says 65 under the cylinder crane(like s/w does)it's a 357 ,although after shooting it yesterday I think I'll stick to 38+p(for the sake of my hands!)
BTW it's a great gun, really accurate for a fixed sight gun...
Also because of this confusion will it be hard to find speedloaders??Thanks

Is your gun a five shot or six shot revolver? If it is a five shot you don't have a 65, you have a 605 (the 65 is a 6shot medium frame revolver with a 4" barrel, the 605 is a 5 shot, 2" small framed snub). Especially since you mention mainly shooting .38+Ps to save your hand I suspect that it is a 605 (a medium frame 65 should shoot most .357 ammo fairly comfortably).

A few years ago I tried replacing the original wood grips that came with my Model 65 with Pachmyers and never did get thme to fit right. The company, I forget which one, would not give a refund but just credit so I go some H&K speed loaders. They work w/o any problem at all.

I'll have to check mine to see if it says "605" or "6-5". Good gun, though I agree that it isn't much fun shooting .357s out of it. Funny, I shot an SP101 that is only 1oz heavier yet was far more comfortable. I got some cheap Butler Creek grips that aren't as grabby as the Taurus grips but they don't cushion as well though. You can also get the current 605/85 grips from Taurus directly. They also have some great looking wood grips. In case you didn't know, the 85 grips will work on this gun. I like mine, though I kind of wish I went with the 85 (since I won't shoot .357s out of it ever for defense, and only occasionally at the range, I wish I got the lighter gun).

It will use speedloaders for J-frame S&Ws.

I tried my speedloader from my j-frame....the Pachmayers wouldn't let the loader work!!But I did see a Houge today at the gun shop that will fit a mod85 so I'll probably bring my gun in and try it..because the Houges have that cut out for the speed loaders.. all in all I think I like this gun.It does fit in my holster for my j-frame also but I think it may stretch it out,so I need to get one for this gun too....
It MAY be my carry gun seince I can shoot +ps or 357's for defence..although my airweight IS lighter....I guess it's good to have options......
