Virginia gun laws

I'll be buying my first gun in a couple months. So before I do, I would like to know what kind of laws, and any restrictions I will have.

I'll be 18 at the time.

Thanks!

Start reading. It would help if I knew what you wanted to buy, where you live. Va is gun-friendly in general. I assume you know that you won't be getting a handgun. If you can be more specific, send me a question. in the meantime join VCDL.

Where you at?

I'm in Midlothian, VA. About 15 minutes outside the city of Richmond.

Probably gonna buy some sort of semi auto military rifle. An Ak/SKS, looking at CETME's and FAL's. The Ruger mini 14/30's. I have three months to decide so i'm looking at everything and making sure I know all the laws and stuff before I make a purchase.

I know about the no handguns/full auto

Beware any metro richmond local ordinances about transporting loaded weapons, where to shoot as far as proximity to other houses. Consider your neighbors attitudes as the FALs are definitely imposing looking weapons and they may call the PD if they are the blissninny type neighbors. Be smart, be safe.

Hmmm...

I lived not to far from there once. Varina to be exact. You can not carry the gun loaded for the most part, and full mag in gun is considered loaded, even w/out a round in the chamber. You better not fire it in a residential zone, or your up the creek... Make sure that if you are not at a range, you are in an agriculture zone, and far enough away not to be heard.... That should do it. It is also a good idea not to leave in a rack in a truck, or you may end up - a gun, and + a broken glass.... Unloaded when transporting, and no fire in a residential zone, and carry in a case at all times, or they can get you for brandishing....

Shoot safe.
