Surefire question

I am close to purchasing a SF
forend light for my 870 Marine
Magnum. Trying to decide between
the 3v, 6v or the new M3 version.
I talked with Mr Lagger of http://www.lagger-pro.com/ about
the 3 voltage options. Basically
he said the 3v is equivalent to
the 3P flashlight, in terms of
lumens (30) and he strongly recommended against it. The 6v = the 6P (65).
The new M3 series produces 225 Lumens, about 3.5x more output than the 6v. Cost is approx $250 with the dedicated housing vs ~$160 for the 6v.

My question to you who have a Surefire mounted on your s/g is:

How much light is enough for a HD weapon? IYO, is the new M3 light worth the extra $$?

ps, I have the 3P, 6P, 6Z & 9P lights and yes, there is a huge difference between the 3P & 6P flaslights.

The 6v version is the minimum I'd go with defensively, or otherwise. I've been running one on my s/g for a couple years now.
I just acquired the M3 light this week. I haven't had the chance to deploy it - but it is worth the money, based on what the Millenium on my AR does.

If you don't mind my asking.. Where did you purchase your M3 and at what price?

3v is fine for a pistol light, but I'd go with a 6v or higher system for a long gun. roughly speaking, I guess I'd say a minimum of 25 lumens for a pistol, 50-60 for a shotgun, 100 for a carbine.

since you're getting a light for a scattergun, rather than the M3, I'd get the standard 6v foreend light and use the $ difference to get a 6P and holster for my pistol belt, or apply it towards an M3 carbine setup.

From what I have seen the Millenium just sticks out too far to use with an 18-20 tube. The 6V is fine.

I picked up the M3 addition (I think the model # is LM90) from LaggerPro. The set-up, plus CA tax (ack) and shipping was $129.

It's about 1.5" longer than the 6v, but is still an inch plus behind the muzzle.

I'm going mull over the M3 vs 6v for a couple of days, then make my decision. Either one should work fine, just have to decide if the M3 is worth the xtra $$.

I think for the carbine the M3 would make sense... for a scattergun the 6 volt should do what ya need.
