Klinton crime bill to sunset in 2003

I heard that the Klinton Crime Bill will "sunset" in 2003, and to be renewed requires Congress to act.

Do you think the "high capacity" (more than 10 rounds) ban will be lifted?

Well, it's supposed to work that way unless it gets renewed.
We can always hope, however it would do more good to let Dubya and the congress critters know just how you feel about this.

It will never happen.
1. politicians like "feel - good" legislation
2. A lot of people selling the Prebans like the inflated almost "black-market prices. While they can buy dirt cheap from people who need the cash.
3. We are a small vocal minority like people who smoke we can be demonized.
4. The people like "feel-good" legislation. It lets them think the government cares for them.
5. It desensitises people for more gun (people) control.

It's only an opinion. It will probably get some of you mad at me though anyway.

September of 2001 may make a good reason for Congress to just leave it alone to die. We shall see.

actually, it sunsets in September of 2004

Our best chance to make sure it dies is in the House elections this fall. Make sure you know who your rep is and what their stance is. Do whatever is necessary to make sure the right candidate is elected.

It sunsets in September of 2004, not 2003. 9/10/2004 as I recall.

Just before the general election. Should be an interesting campaign.

Get to work now to let people know that CB1994 has not been shown to reduce crime.

It purposely sunsets just before a national election. No one is going to support allowing it to end. The liberal, national media would crucify them in their home area. The probability of it being continued for another 4 years (until another election year) is virtually 100%.

Hey, a lot of "us" like these feel-good laws. Just look around.

Yes, if we all adopt this attitude, you are correct.

I think the outcome of this years elections will give a us clue to the future of it. Some of the Republicans are political cowards and will not want this issue beating them over the head in 2004.

The President, the biggest Political coward of them all, will sign it because he is not articulate enough to be able to explain why he vetoed it. He will be torn apart during Presidential debates in 2004 and all he will be able to say to respond is uuhhh and uuummmm. That is a situation he will try to avoid.

He certainly will not spend any "political capital" to veto it.

Our only hope is to get it killed in the Congress. The House, if the Repubs increase their majority is our best bet. If the Senate is still close to even, people like John McCain will side with the dems.

I'm no expert, but couldn't they just not act on it? That way they didn't vote against it either and they could say they'll tackle it after the election...

Can they change it in any ways and then pass it? Maybe they could water it down (e.g. allow any clip size), then pass it and say they still voted for it?

Either way it's useless, feel-good, freedom robbing legislation anyways. :barf:

Contact Congress

Here is a website that will allow you to type in your zipcode, and receive contact info for the folks that represent you in Washington. When the time comes, let them hear from all of us on this issue!

This election, 2002 - 10 weeks or so away decides how this goes.

Those elected this 11/5 will decide. Bill sunsets in 9/04 if not reinvented by then. Those elected in the general election of '04 don't take office till 1/05

If it doesn't get any mileage in either the house or senate, it dies.

You know what to do.

Seldom, if ever does the government give back rights once it has taken them away. Lately more than ever, government is in the business of taking away rights, not restoring. If you want preban mags buy them now, they won't get cheaper after Sept. 04.

I agree, we are a small minority...however, only a very small minority of citizens bother to contact their representatives and senators. This fact makes our influence far greater. I hope we all, even those who don't think it will do any good, contact those we elect and tell them how we want them to go.

If they do nothing, we win. Nothing is what they do best anyway.
