Remington bulk bullets in .223Rem?
Can anyone recommend or give their experiences with the Remington 50 or 55gr soft points (PSP) or hollow point (PowerLokt) bullets in the .223 Remington?
Specifically I'm looking for a fast, accurate and inexpensive varminter/plinker bullet for a 1x9 Shaw barreled AR. Even Vmaxs will get expensive at the rate I'm shooting this new AR build |

Have used the Rem . 55 gr. from Midway at around 4.50 per 100 on sale and have been quite satisfied. Did however find an overstock of 68 gr. HPBT from Lock,Stock andBarrel at 45/1000 and they are really nice shoting esp. out over 200 yds.
Am shooting a RRA heavy barrel 223 1:9 twist and it likes the 68-69 grain BT's. Have used Varget and VV-N133 and 135 equally accurate. |

I've found the Remington 55gr. fmj's to be extremely inaccurate.

re:POODLESHOOTER
I have used Remington bulk bullets in some calibers other then .224. The ones I have tried have worked quite well. I have a .300 Savage that loves their bullets. At the price, who am I to argue?

Not sure who makes Midway's but they are fine. Also, Rems and Speer 55grn spitzers in .224.

The 50 grain PowerLokt is nearly as accurate as SMK in my rifle, better than Hornady, Speer, and other Sierra. The 55 is cannelured and is not as accurate.
The PowerLokt is more accurate for me than any of the bulk softpoints. They are more expensive unless you buy a lot, though. |

Bulk bullets for a .223
I use bulk Winchester 55 grain PSP bullets in my .223. There is about 1/4? inch or less difference in accuracy or about what you would expect from a FACTORY ROUND.

I ended up picking up some of the cannelured 55gr SPs. I couldn't resist the price, and Midway was out of the 50gr PowerLokt HP 500 packs when I ordered.
Those PowerLokt HPs sure are a good deal for a quality varmint bullet. Even in 500 packs, they work out to about $7.20 per 100,making them about 70% of the cost of even the inexpensive Hornady VMax. I don't really use any FMJs in reloads anymore. I'll buy them as blasting ammo when they're cheaper than my reloads, but don't bother reloading them when I can get accurate softpoints for nearly the same price. I've used the ten cent apiece 125,150, and 165gr .308" Remington bulk bullets extensively. They're one of my favorite general target and hunting bullets. With all of the current premium and match factory loads using the best bullets available, I'm pretty happy to be able to match factory ammo accuracy and do it at half of the price or less. |

55gr rem soft point bullets through 1-9 twist
I have fired many of the rem 55 gr sp bullets through my rem 700 varmint rifle 1-12 twist with great success. However when I used them in my ar15 with 1-9 twist I had a problem of every once in awhile a round would break apart before reaching the target at 100 yrds. I had the same problem with hornady 55 gr sp the next time at the range. I never had a problem with 55 fmj so I presumed it was the sp couldn't handle the 1-9 twist. I've since went with hornady 68 gr bthp and am having no problems at all. I hope this helps.
