Mosin M44 who has the better selections?

I want to get a few Mosin M44 Carbines with the accessories. Who has the better deal on them right now? I have found a couple on gunbroker for $99 buy it now, but the pictures are not good and they are dark, hard to tell what you are really getting.

All the usual suspects (AIM, Classic Arms, SOG, Century, Samco, RGuns, J&G Sales, I.O.) seem to be bone-dry of M44's/M38's. Unless somebody else knows of any other volume sellers, I would guess that your best bet would be an individual or auction sites such as the one you mentioned. How long ago did you see M44's advertised for $99? I struggle to find any below $150.

Pretty much whoever has them.

They come and go at the sites mentioned above, and I've seen them at local gun shows for $100-$150.

In search on Gunbroker I typed in "Mosin Carbine," and came up with this listing. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=158299243

It has a dark bore and some pits in the bore. I personally do not want it. I wrote the seller to actually describe the pits and he said they were there, can be seen and the bore is rusty as well. I do not know enough about Mosins to know the conditions of what is out there but I would rather not have a bad bore, cosmetics I do not care about, but I want the quality where it should be, the bore, chamber, sights and bolt.

Prices ranged from $89 to $300 and everything in between.

I want to get three of them for my sons Boyscout shooting team. This would just be a fun addition to the dull all the time shooting .22lr from single shot comp rifles.

The rifles are too long and heavy for these kids and the Carbine seems to fit the bill both size and money wise.

There are still plenty out there with decent bores (though they may be counter-bored), but bore condition can be deceptive - there are lots of Mosins with sub-standard barrels that still shoot well.

If you're concerned with the full-length rifle's heft and length, bear in mind that the carbine has quite a boom and kick when shooting. Of course, that might be right up their alley...

LOL The boom and kick is what they are most excited about. We have slowly added some fun guns for them. A few single shot - shotguns, Rossi single shot .223, a few .17hmr, a CMP M1 carbine pieced together from the barreled action and from parts from damn near everwhere. We even have a local US Army unit that has brought various weapons for the kids to fire such as an M4, M24? Beltfed and even a 1903a3 which almost to a boy, none of them can heft and fire and use it for rifle rest shooting only. One of the scouts dads have a M44 and all the kids shot it and love it. The dad is a reloader and by magic or skill loaded some down to be less mule kicking than the mil-surp stuff is.

We are just trying to expand their fun, increase their firearms and history knowledge while at the same time teaching them respect, humility and honor. Marksmanship tends to do all that.

Big 5 Sporting Goods may still have some. I think the $99 deals on Gunbroker are about the best you're going to get, if price is important. The kids are going to scratch them up a bit, and refinishing a couple of them might make a good project.
