.257 Roberts loads...........

I have an old Winchester Model 54 in a .257 Roberts that I want to reload for. I founds some bullets that I bought around 20 years ago that are Hornady 117 grain BTSPs #2552. I don't have a Hornady manual and the manuals that I do have don't contain any loads for 117 grain bullets. Can anyone provide me some load info to get me started? Thanks in advance.

Anthony

The Hodgdon Reloading Center online link has loads for 115 and 120 grain bullets to choose from. Using the 120 grain would be a more conservative choice.

I found a manual that has a 117 gr load for Varget

Trim 2.223
c.o.l. 2.775
35 grains of Varget but reduce by 5% then work up
Case and LR primer of your choice
List velocity @2,565 but this manual in conservative

H-414 with 39.7 grains seems to take the cake in power @2,706 but Varget is suggested as more accurate and likely is
You can use the hodgedons-414 with all the specs I gave in the varget load accept powder charge of coarse

My pre 64 M70 has a very deep throat. I was able to seat my bullet 0.2" further out, in fact I should say, I needed to seat my bullets 0.2" further out or they would have been jumping that distance.

Given I was able to seat the bullets further out, I am certain pressures were less, which is a good thing.

My rifle really liked 100 grain bullets and IMR 4350.
