I'm loading .45 Long Colt anywhere from Cowboy mild up to maximum loads using .452 sized cast alloy bullets. I want to try .454 sized bullets in my gun (Ruger Blackhawk) to see what kind of accuracy difference there is. Wanting to be carefull, I will start with the mild loads, however I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experiences on what kind of pressure increases I might expect, keeping all other variables & components the same.

RW2. See if your .452 bullets are a snug fit in the cylinder mouths of your Ruger. If they are loose, try .454 bullets. The ones with the snuggest fit will usually give you the best accuracy.
I feed 3 Colt SAA's and a Ruger Blackhawk,(old model) and settled on .454 bullets just for simplicity's sake. For some great info on loading your Ruger, go to (www.sixgunner.com) There are some really good articles by John Taffin, Paco Kelly, and John Linebaugh. Also there is pressure tested hot loads for the .45LC. Paul B |
