CZ 75 SP-01 is this worth the money

Hello all,
Contemplating buying this CZ for $470 out the door. Is it worth the money in these crazy times?

Forgot to mention that it has night sights but only 1 mag and no box or papers.

It is a great gun. A little rough around the edges as far as fit and finish.

Basic trigger is a little rough but will smooth up after use. I had the competition trigger and spring set put in mine and it shoots really good.

I can't remember just what I paid for mine but I know it was more than what you are seeing.

Take it. . .you won't be sorry.

Excellent deal except the linked photo isn't a SP-01...that is a P-01.

Are you sure its an SP-01 and not a P-01? Regardless $470 would be a good price for what you described as long as its in mechanically good shape as well. I believe they can be found new for the mid $500's (p-01) but that involves actually finding one. CZ handguns have always been a bit difficult to get your hands on.

CZ make a nice gun. Like other have said, a bit rough on the finish 'inside', but solid, good shooting guns. I'd jump on it at that price.

Looks like a P-01 to me. If it's not NIB, I think it's a bit over priced.

What is the year of manufacture? It should be stamped on the slide just in front of the ejection port.

You guys have me thinking as I am not all that familiar with the CZ line. I could swear I read SP-01 but maybe read too quickly as there was another interested buyer.

It is used.

Can someone explain the difference between the P-01 vs SP-01?

I am including another picture. Hopefully you guys will be able to tell.

Older model P-01 manufactured in 05. Date is stamped at rear of ejection port. Later they were stamped in front of the ejection port. Still think it's a bit over priced.

I have both. That is a P-01, compact, forged aluminum frame.

The SP-01 is full-sized, all steel, and in standard form has a safety, not a decocker. The SP-01 Tactical has a decocker, but is otherwise similar to the SP-01.

$470 is not a bad price if the night sights still glow.

Also, the picture is not too clear. Do the serial numbers on the slide and frame match?

I would pass also. Not that its not a good gun but i think its a bit high.

CZs are one of the guns that always seemed miss marked @ gun shops. We have a P-01 at a shop here that the owner believes is a CZ75 BD I politely told him it was a mistake and that it was actually a P-01. He basically laughed at me , but he is kinda an A**hole.

I also got a NIB CZ85 Combat two tone that was listed as a CZ75B that was a different shop tho.

That's a CZ-75 P01 ... $470 is not THAT great a deal on it BUT .... it's an extremely accurate 9mm out of the box and a breeze to conceal.

Well the good news is that my FFL allows me to take the money I put up for this gun and change it to a different one if I want. They only charge me $25 if I decide not to buy but nothing if I switch to a different gun.

The problem is there is virtually nothing. They are down to the expensive Sigs, Rugers and Taurus.

Consider this: it's an older model P-01 made in 2005 but is in ideal condition with good night sights. The price is $470 for the pistol with one mag. Quick check shows Bud's last sold price for a brand new one is $565. Magazines are roughly $30 bringing a comparable price to $500 (disregarding box). While a $65 discount on an eight year old gun may seem a bit absurd, I take a bit of a stance from CZ-USA's ability to actually put guns into the market compared to companies like Smith and Springfield.

Even before this "panic", CZ handguns of any flavor were fairly difficult to come across. Is the bit of premium worth the convenience of having one in great condition readily available? It's a convenience charge you'll likely not get back should you decide to sell it yourself, but it could be well worth it if you've been looking for one of those beauties. If you're still on the fence about the pistol itself and just want it because its there, then my convenience point is moot, however if its what you want, then its always nice to get what you want.

A few months ago, I would have said that was a decent, but not great deal. But for perspective, CZs are really hard to find right now. I know that CZs are generally backordered for the foreseeable next few months, and I suspect prices will go up. It is a great pistol--if you have any interest in it, you should get it.

CZ seems to be pretty inconsistent in supply. For context, I have been waiting about 6 months for an SP01 and am mentally prepared for another 6 months...

Exactly. I waited about 4 months before I could get my hands on a plain ole' CZ-75B back in Feb 2012. That was with having my name down in my two LGS's and several online stores.

I've been looking strongly at the sp-01 tactical, which is the decocker version and comes with night sights. However, I'm in California, and the sp-01 tactical is off-roster, making it harder to obtain. Does anyone have any experience or opinions between the sp-01 and the sp-01 tactical? Strongly considering one of these, or the 75bd, as my first firearm.. intended as a 9mm range and beginner handgun.

The difference is that between cocked and locked, or decocked and long first pull carry. Which do you prefer?

Note that you can't convert one into the other, as the holes in the frames are not in the same positions. So, my SP-01 can't be made into a Tactical, and my P-01 can't be converted to a safety.

In other words, figure out which you like before you buy, because you can't change it to the other mode once you've bought it.

Ten years ago I was looking for a range/carry gun to replace my XD. Someone at the range let me try their new P01 but at the time the mag baseplate was a steel plate and dug into my little finger, so I got a 75bd instead.

Now, the P01 has a contoured rubber pad that allows all fingers on the grip. Looking back now I really would have been happier with the P01 as it has a lot of improvements over the older 75 model. I can almost guarantee you'd love the P01, provided you can get a mag with the rubber baseplate. Mine has been stellar.

The SP01 is nice but quite heavy.

Chris in va, a few years back I traded away a PCR for the same reason. It was a great shooter, but the exposed magazine base plate was extremely irritating to my little finger.

I have a P-01 (actually, I have a second one on the way, too), and that new base plate design makes a huge difference. I would still have the PCR, too, if those magazines had come out a bit sooner.
