Winchester .224 HP Bullets
I been thinking of trying some Winchester .224 46 gr HP bullets in my 22-250.
Velocity will most likely be around 3700 fps out of my rifle. Has anyone had any experience with these bullets? Best Regards Bob Hunter www.huntercustoms.com |

Nope, my Tikka like 50 grain Hornady SP SXs. I know I'm very close on speeds on the box that they can handle but I loaded them under Varget until I got a single hole. Shoot a deer in the head and when he turns a back flip he's only got half a head.

I had some of those. I think they are meant for the .218 Bee.
I don't have a record of shooting any in either .223 or .22-250. Good luck. |

One word describes those "bullets":
Inconsistent. They're crap. Don't waste your time messing with them.

I've got some for my .22 Hornet. Bought 3 bags of 100..........still have about two hundred left.
Consistency was horrible. Ogives varied, mouths were crooked, large weight variations, bullet length varied, and probably 10% or so had splits in the jacket on the side and/or base of the bullet. The only consistent thing about them was the poor accuracy with every powder and charge weight I tried. From what I saw of thier construction while messing with them, I don't know that they will stand up to 3,700 fps. For cheap HP bullets, I ended up going to the bagged Remmington 46 grain HP. Much better accuracy (and they look a whole lot better too), but with a sharper corner on the base, they like to crush my Hornet case necks if I'm not really carefull during seating. I usually just stick to 40 and 45 grain SP bullets in my Hornet for small furry mammals. Even at the lower velocity I am loading for (2,750 fps with a 40 grain bullet), most bullets in those weights are fragile enough that they expand quite explosively, even without being a HP.

To all that replied I thank you for the info.
I guess now I know why my distributors have a large supply of them, while everything else is almost impossible to get. Best Regards Bob Hunter www.huntercustoms.com |
